Small Groups

What is a small group?

Small groups are the best way to know and be known at Mission Lakewood. A small group is a community of usually 5-15 people who gather each week to study the Bible and create authentic relationships. Small groups are not only a great way to get to know God on a deeper level, they are a great way to get to know other people.

How do small groups work?

How often? Our small groups meet once a week in different places and at different times.

What do we do? Each group does two things each week when they gather. First, we spend time eating together and catching up on life. Then, we spend time studying Scripture together and in prayer.

What do we study? Every week, our small groups study Scripture together. Most weeks, we will be studying the passage from the previous Sunday's sermon.

What's the point?

We want to grow closer and closer to Jesus. As 2 Peter 3:18 tells us, "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." The question is, how do we grow spiritually?

One way we grow spiritually is through the study of Scripture. The Bible is God's Word, written to us, so that we can get to know God and His plan for our lives. A second way we grow spiritually is through prayer, communicating with God. A third way we grow spiritually is being in community with other people who follow Jesus; encouraging one another, holding one another accountable, and being there for one another when things are hard. Small groups are powerful because they involve all three of these ways of spiritual growth; Scripture, prayer, and community.

What small group can I join?

Our current open small groups include:

-The Martinez small group. Sundays after church, all ages.

-The Laing small group. Tuesday nights, mostly families with young children.

-The Vicky small group. Thursday nights, empty nesters.
